| Founders Grove. This 55 acre grove in Humboldt Redwoods State Park was established in 1931 through the efforts of the Save-the-Redwoods League, and was named in honor of its founders, John C. Merriam, Madison Grant, and Henry Fairfield Osborn. The tallest, largest, and likely oldest member of the grove, the Dyerville Giant, fell in 1991; the sound of its fall was reportedly heard miles away. Photo by Richard Preston, © Richard Preston |
